Text-based scale (ie. 1: XXXX)

Hi,

In order to set the MAXSCALE and MINSCALE, I need to know the current scale

of the map in text form, like 1: 130033. I have seen some applications
having it.
Can anyone pass the template or map file (or snippets will do) doing this.
