a little late just wanted to post the site we did using mapserver technology
back in december,  thanks to mapserver and the list for help along the way.
It works great with no problems so far!

also, we are looking into an open source solution involving jpeg2000 to
progressively show scalable satalite images over the net,   any advice?

source code was modified a little to support jpeg and gd1.8.4
