[mapserver-users] Can't load .... mapscript.so for module mapscript

I upgraded a whole bunch of stuff on my aging RH 7.2 server. So, I
re-installed mapserver 3.6.3. Followed the directions on the wiki.
Everything (seemed to have) went fine. Except, everything is now fubar.

First, the symptoms... mapserver doesn't work at all. With perl mapscript
application I get the following --

Can't load
'/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/i386-linux/auto/mapscript/mapscript.so' for
module mapscript:
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/i386-linux/auto/mapscript/mapscript.so:
undefined symbol: TIFFIsByteSwapped at
/usr/lib/perl5/5.6.1/i386-linux/DynaLoader.pm line 206.
 at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/i386-linux/mapscript.pm line 7

Just doing a `mapserv -v` gives a

./mapserv: error while loading shared libraries: libproj.so.0: cannot open
share
d object file: No such file or directory

My guess is that the older libraries are messing around with the ones from
the more recent install.

Is it worthwhile tracking everything down that I installed with mapserver,
deleting it, and then reinstalling? (will take a long time, so I want to
make sure).

I am using Apache 2.0.39. Are there any special tricks required?

I am using PHP 4.1.2 which seems to be the recommended version. Should I
bump it up further?

Many tia.

Puneet.
