Ed,

Hot on the trail here...

Plugging the /direct/ URL in reveals that the image is in fact entirely
white (or blank - I'm not sure how to distinguish the two).
Doing a "properties" on the image from the browser reveals
that is is, like I asked it, 600x600. So it looks like image generation
happens (but not with the view I want) and I may have the URL
munging wrong. The most important thing is of course to get
the image generation happening correctly.
