proj - the same utility used for on the fly re-projection

one example
echo $lat $long | proj +proj=lcc +lon_0=95w +lat_0=0 +lat_1=49 +lat2=77 -r

project geographic to
lambert conformal
        origin -95 0
        1st parallel 49
        2nd parallel 77
