bounding polygon

tile4ms returned a rectangle on the county parcel shapefile as the bounding box.
what I'd like to achive is to get the "real" bounding polygon. On county level, the county boundary is exactly what I am looking for. The problem is when I have shapes overlapping counties and I can not simply use the county boundary as the overall bounding polygon. I'll try the other options and let you guys know how it goes.
thanks for the replies

tile4ms will do this if you pass in the name of your shapefile the
output shapefile will have one record with the bounding box.
