query by rectangle

hello......
        i am working upon a gis project using php-mapscript and mapserver.
        Though the task of query by point is working properly in my project but it is becoming very difficult for me to add the facility of query by rectangle.
         Any code and suggesation regarding this
will be greatfully accepted.
