cgi variables for layer list and extent

Hi All,
I have map file and I'm tryng to use cgi variables to get the layer's list
and the map extent.
I try to do it using a template but I need the templete to be an another
server and therefore I would to specify url for template.
Anybody has any idea? Thanks in advance
