DEM Layers

Hello all,

I have downloaded data from a website and I wish to use it in my .map file.
The downloaded files are .dem.  Is there any special way they need to be
added to my map?  I tried adding similar to a raster layer in .tif but got
an error.  Any suggestions?  Thanks
