Setting layer metadata via URL

Hello,

How does one set layer metadata via the URL?

I tried:

&map_layername_metadata_checkable=2

And, just in case:

&map_layername_checkable=2

Neither seems to work?

This metadata item is used by the HTML Legend template ... Could it be the
legend template gets processed before the URL info is merged in??
