I was reading in "Web Mapping Illustrated" that MySQL "lacks many of the
spatial functions found in PostGIS".

Anyone have an idea what features it lacks?

Which MySQL or PostGIS does anyone prefer?

I'm just starting to implment a spatial database and wonder which one to
use.
