Autodesk product naming poll

I must post again.

This common name for a common goal thing is really bugging me.

Why not call everything mapserver so that no one knows what people are
talking about?

.... MapServer! ... its the Smurf of the new millenium!

How about we extend the reverse name takeover to other softwares for
the benefit of other Open Source projects?

New! Oracle PostGIS! ... now with license fees!

Instead of Windows Vista ... how about Windows Linux! ... Then both
sides can claim 100% market share! Imagine the increased productivity
with this huge flamewar finally over!

Coming soon, ArcView with a usable WMS system: ... ESRI Arc - UDig!

New! Microsoft IE Firefox!

IIS Apache! gotta like it!

Look at these examples. eliminating Competition from any of these
would have eliminated the need for most of the open source versions,
or at the least would have kept the world using flawed, needlessly
expensive, or feature poor software, with nothing to drive new ideas.

Competition can drive development at least as much as it can hurt a
competitor. Pretending that the competition is over by hiding it
within a name will only hide the death of a competitor.
