Case of the blankety blanks

I realize that there are two potential approaches to this all-too-common
STATUS ON  vs STATUS DEFAULT issue.

The easiest solution is probably more documentation/education/help/etc.


But, has anyone thought of changing the domain of these arguements to
something like 'DISPLAY' 'AVAILABLE' 'OFF'.  I know that even with
deprication, this could potentially break old apps, but it would most
likely make it easier for new users to get up and running.

Use STATUS DEFAULT for your layers instead of STATUS ON. Read doco for
more info.
