There was an important bug fix
http://mapserver.gis.umn.edu/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=1319 made to the
heads of the 4.4 and 4.6 branches.  I'm not sure there will be a 4.4.3
release, but you can get the fix from a nightly 4.4 build.
