Error "ap is undefined.: Unable to access file. adLabelString()"

Dear MapServer experts,

Has anyone seen the following error message?

ap is undefined.: Unable to access file. adLabelString()

We have installed MapServer 4.4.2 on RedHat Enterprise WS
and are trying to run mapserv as CGI.
The Google search didn't give us any useful information
and we are desparate...

Any help will be sincerely appreciated.
