Are there any functional differences between Unix and Windows?

HI,

I am totally new on using Mapserver, now I am puzzle on using which
platform as my Mapserver Web Map Server. May I know the functional
differences betwwen Unix/Linux and Windows? If yes, are there any
limitation or restriction on each of them? and what should I take a notice
on?
