Missing Mouse Clicks/events

I am running mapserver within an xhtml/strict envronment and no number of
attempts at clicking on the generated gif/map file generates any action
from mapserver.

Running Mapserver in a html window always generates a response.

As the borwser is the same,  I am assuming its not a browser(firefox 1.5)
problem.

Do I have to set the "onclick" handler on the generate map image file to
get this to work correctly or some magic called for ?
