Creating imagemaps with php/mapscript

Take a look at:  http://mapserver.gis.umn.edu/docs/howto/imagemaps

This uses cgi mapserver as opposed to MapScript, but you could likely
translate it.  

Actually, I am not sure if this functionality exists in MapScript.  Can
any of the mapscript maintainers verify if the shapexy functionality
exists in any of the mapscript flavors?

I would like to create client side imagemap using php/mapscript. I have
read a wiki document on:

and tried to use this example but it didn't work...

Does someone have a working example?
