Thank you. That is exactly the problem that I am encountering.
Switching from Gdal 1.4 back to 1.3 has fixed my problem, despite what
I said in my original post above. (I think I botched it the first
time). The MapInfo layers are fine with orginfo, etc. function
correctly in MapServer so long as I do not use STYLEITEM "AUTO". When
I do enable  STYLEITEM "AUTO" the browser reports premature end of
headers, nothing is written to the MapServer log, and the Apache logs
report 500.
