Map Selection using php MapScript

Hello,
Is there a way I can create a temp layer/class to show a selection.

For example: (Data: Parcels)
A user draws a bounding box and the Envelope is sent to a php file to
highlight all parcels that touch that extent.

I have all the JavaScript done, I just need to render the map properly.

Any ideas ?
