Johan,
Topozone.com is a large site with rasters on the order of 20 TB of disk
and serves some pretty high volumes. It uses something like a cluster of
9-10 systems running mapserver. This site draws primarily raster maps,
but also has vector mapping that can be overlaid. I will defer to Ed
McNierney for details.
Where2getit.com serves in the ball park of 1/2 Billion map draws
annually. We have a load balanced cluster of 10 +- mapservers drawing
vector based maps.
Slippymap.com is serving tiles that were generated using mapserver.
I'm sure there are lots of other sites out that that are serving high
volumes.
