[mapserver-users] question on layer projection and WMS

Hi list,

I've always thought it was mandatory to have a LAYER PROJECTION block for a
layer in a WMS service.

Did something change with respect to this requirement, since it seems you
can leave out the LAYER PROJECTION (at least since 4.10) and it will still
work (even reprojection), and you'll even get a performance increase since
there are less PROJ lookups. Does it default now to the MAP's projection? Or
what's happening?

If so, should the WARNING in the capabilities not be changed/removed?

<!-- WARNING: Mandatory mapfile parameter '(at least one of) MAP.PROJECTION,
LAYER.PROJECTION or wms_srs metadata' was missing in this context. -->

Best regards,
Bart
