mapserver doesnt't see libgdal

Frank,
thanks for the hint, it has been already tried and did not help:
If a wrapper is used, mapserv falls into some sort of an ugly infinite loop.
BTW: gdal-config is obviously aware of the correct locations of the libs:
~/homemade/bin$ ./gdal-config --libs
-L/home/pacs/xxx/homemade/lib -lgdal
Still puzzled,
