See ticket #956, we have ported the patches to 5.0 and committed the 
required changes to SVN trunk:
   http://trac.osgeo.org/mapserver/ticket/956

If you cannot use 5.1 (svn trunk) then you could try to patch your 5.0 
source using the diffs from:
   http://trac.osgeo.org/mapserver/changeset/7457?format=diff&new=7457
