Steve ... this is a common problem with PHP. Your main installation has been 
upgraded to 5.3.8 but Mapscript was installed from another source and so is 
still 'stamped' with the previous version number which must be some time 
previously since its 2006 ;)

Fixing the problem just involves either getting a pre-compiled copy of mapscript 
for php5.3.8 or you may need to compile it yourself since SLES11 is obviously 
not managing the version control properly. My own SUSE12.1 setup is pulling the 
correct versions of the files.
