OGR has infrastructure to convert from curve geometries to approximated curve 
geometries with

geom = OGR_G_ForceTo(geom,
   OGR_GT_GetLinear(OGR_G_GetGeometryType(geom)), NULL)

as used in mapogr.cpp for example
