[Marketing] New Chair

Agreed Harrison,

To short circuit some of the discussion: OSGeo is about outreach and advocacy. See also my doc in the Wiki under Marketing-Discussion tab.

In my book that means that our committee provides the support tools for the community to actually do the work locally/regionally/globally. Now that these tools are updated and available, we can choose a more active or a support role.

I choose the latter, as I am not paid to do what this community should be all about.

Perhaps Jody is right, I am tired. Having spent more than a year on rebrand, website revamp and collateral with Jody and Jeff, among other marketing work.
Any idea we come up with in the upcoming week involves volunteer time. Because this is at a premium, I suggest we don’t go overboard in our brainstorm.

Kind regards,
Marc Vloemans

Working on sponsorship for events is absolutely important work, but it’s not all that engaging by itself... most of the time seems to go towards getting the expectations of whoever is requesting sponsorship to a level the committee can deliver on. Ultimately, it’s politely saying “I don’t think we can help with that” to people who want to do things that we’d love to see them do.
