Hello Howard

For information, the GeoTools/Geotoolkit.org dialect is actually the one 
published on this web page (click on any projection, the parameter names are the 
one published in the "OGC WKT" column):

http://www.remotesensing.org/geotiff/proj_list/

I would guess that GDAL uses the same codes, since this page is maintained (I 
think) by Frank Warmerdam.

The parameter names are actually aready standardized (maybe not all of them, but 
many of them). The authoritative document is there (click on "OpenGIS Coordinate 
Transformation Service Implementation Specification"):

See especially the tables at page 30 and 35. The "removesensing.org" web page is 
conformant with this specification as far as I know, but more complete.

An other possibility is to use EPSG names (the above page contains a ZIP file 
mapping the EPSG name to OGC names). Note however that some EPSG parameter names 
changed in the latest EPSG database release (7.6).
