[Mobilitydb-dev] The standard

The starting point is the ISO standard
https://www.iso.org/standard/41445.html
from which the other OGC standards are derived from
https://www.ogc.org/standards/movingfeatures

After our implementation of these standards in MobilityDB we found out
several issues and potential improvements that we are currently discussing
within the OGC SWG. In particular,
* An extension of the WKB format is needed for an efficient data exchange
between applications. This is required, e.g., in a distributed Cloud
environment where each node has only a subset of the dataset. Performing
distributed joins requires that data be exchanged between nodes (a.k.a.
reshuffling). This has been presented in the following presentation
https://docs.mobilitydb.com/pub/WKB-OGC-2021-June-slides.pdf
* The encoding standards are not semantically equivalent, we discussed that
in the following paper
https://arxiv.org/abs/2006.16900

Regards

Esteban
