Marie-Claire, Cara and Kerry,

[Kerry, note the Aust-NZ email list is publicly archived. We use it to
discuss ideas, but not specifics about the budget. Our reasoning for
being public is explained here:
https://extranet.lisasoft.com/wiki/index.php/Foss4g-sydney ]

I had a chat with Jeff Waugh today broken short from another call he had
coming in.

My random thoughts - significantly tempered by Jeff's comments are:

* UNSW and the Darling Harbour Convention Center are the venues options
worth considering. We need an order of magnitude estimate comparing the
difference in costs between the two, presented on a per delegate basis.

* The majority of the attendees will be international. Maybe 90%. In the
program I feel we need to include:
- A dinner on Sydney Harbour or ferry ride to dinner.
- Sydney's beaches are very attractive too. UNSW is walking distance
from Coogee where guests can find accommodation. Guests can be
encouraged to make use of the beaches before/after the conference too.

* Networking is very important, so access to pubs is good.

* As Jeff notes: "Keep the low value overheads down", spend it on high
value items instead. Ie, keep publishing down, rely upon electronic
email and web sites instead. Audio Visual from Darling Harbour is very
expensive. I understand Venue costs for UNSW are much less, so we can
spend more elsewhere. Lets get some figures so we can compare.

* Jeff suggests treating speakers like rock stars. Linux Australia gave
speakers a private Harbour Cruise. I'm open to this idea, but still need
to be convinced. I'd like to run the idea past the international
community first.

When are Australian Uni holidays? I assume we can only get access to
UNSW during these holidays?

When are Jewish and Thanksgiving holidays?
Easter Sunday in 2009 is 12 April.

The international Where 2.0 conference has traditionally been mid to
late May. We should not clash with this.
