Cameron,

Thanks for this. Very Helpful. I will take this with me to Wellington
next week to the Geospatial summit where I am presenting on GeoNetwork.
Several stakeholders will be there - in particular, Brendon Whiteman of
the NZ Geospatial Office (counterpart to the OSDM).

Just gave it a quick read. I will go through it more thoroughly soon.
One general comment, there needs to be more distinction made between
where you are talking about GeoNetwork Opensource trunk as held by
Jeroen Ticheler at the FAO in Rome, and the Australian efforts. Many of
the issues you list, such as the beta status, only apply to the
Australian efforts. Jeroen's group have largely cleaned up their act in
regard to release schedules. (This particular issue is moot now anyway
since the beta status has been removed. Congrats, Simon!) A clearer
picture of relationship of our work in Australian/New Zealand relates to
FAO trunk needs to be made to remove confusion.

Cheers,
Byron

Subject: Strategic Investment in Geonetwork Open Source (draft paper)

With some prodding from a number of you on this list, I've compiled a
"Strategic Geonetwork Investment" paper collating key suggestions on how
to refocus Aust/New Zealand's investment in Geonetwork.

The paper aims to collate suggestions from all of you and build upon
these suggestions.

I anticipate this document to be used as a talking point to focus future
discussions and investment decisions in Geonetwork.

I'm looking for feedback. I'm especially aware that the section on
stakeholders is quite thin.
Could people please update relevant sections before Friday 4 July and
send back to me to be incorporated into a version 1.0.
