Thanks John,
Its not quite what I was after, but it does confirm that there are
things happening around the OsGeo sphere around here.
Sounds like that sort of grass-roots level of activity would be great to
enhance ShonkyMaps as well.

Probably not what you are after, but there is a bi-monthly meeting
held in Brisbane by people keen about OpenStreetMap, and every other
month is spent on an area of Brisbane lacking street names in OSM.
The meetup on the 21st of this month is to map out street names on
Macleay Island.
