Based on my experiences as a member of the Local Organising Committee for FOSS4G-2009, a future bid from Australia and New Zealand would need to be actively supported by the OSGeo-AustNZ and FOSS4G community if it were to be successful.

I have not seen any discussion on your proposal within the Australian community, so can I suggest that this is a pre-requisite first step?

With my current commitments, I can’t see that I will have the time to devote to a FOSS4G-2015 bid. I note that Cameron has also responded similarly.

Perhaps there are others in the OSGeo-AustNZ community who would care to work with you. You can subscribe to the OSGeo-AustNZ list at [1] and follow any discussion to see if there is interest.

I am hoping you can assist me with an enquiry I have on FOSS4G?



By way of introduction, I work with the Melbourne Convention Bureau of Australia, a non-for-profit organisation whose mission is to work in partnership with local associations and institutions and provide free of charge assistance to local organisations and academics in putting together a bid for meetings in their particular field of expertise.



I note from previous correspondence our office has had with Cameron Shorter, GeoSpatial Programs Manager, 2017 was seen to be the next open year for Australia to be considered as a host for FOSS4G. I am wondering if this is still the next open year for which Australia could be considered and if so, when the due date would be for the bid to be submitted?



I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for any assistance to the above questions that you are able to give me, it is very much appreciated.
