The abstract deadline for EGU 2019 is coming up soon (10 Jan 2019).  The upcoming EGU General Assembly 2019 again offers many opportunities to showcase your work in Earth Science Informatics, geoscience instrumentation and geoscience data systems.

 

In particular, I would like to invite you to submit abstracts to the following sessions:

 

ESSI3.1  Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) for Earth and Space Science Informatics

Software is critical to the success of science. Creating and using Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) fosters contributions from the scientific community, creates a peer-reviewed and consensus-oriented environment, and promotes sustainability of science infrastructures. The session will be a forum for the latest advances in FOSS-empowered research, for successful applications of existing FOSS tools for geoscientific tasks, as well as for new developments in geoscience-related to FOSS.

 

GI3.1/AS5.5/CR2.13/EMRP2.20/NH6.11/OS4.27 Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as a new, emerging instrument in Geosciences

Unlike manned aircraft, UAVs were initially used for missions too "dull, dirty, or dangerous" for humans. Nowadays, however, many modern scientific experiments have begun to use UAVs as a tool to collect different types of data. At this session, we would like people to share their experience in using UAVs for scientific research. We are interested to hear about specific scientific tasks accomplished or attempted, types of UAVs used, and instruments deployed.

 

ESSI2.8 Linking Environmental Data, Samples and Publications

Earth and environmental science data are collected by a large number of projects and organisations, in both public and private sectors. The abundance of data standards, combined with weak governance around controlled vocabularies, impedes data reuse because it often involves educated guesses about its structure and the meaning of embedded abbreviations and codes. This session invites contributions that explore, explain and extend the current state of the art in Earth and environmental science data access, use and publication using modern web principles. Particular interest will be paid to the integration of physical samples with their associated datasets and scholarly literature.

 

ESSI4.1  Data science, Analytics and Visualization: The challenges and opportunities for Earth and Space Science

Data science, analytics and visualisation technologies and methods emerge as significant capabilities that address a number of challenges and present new opportunities in improving Earth and Space science data usability. This session will highlight and discuss the novelty and strength of these emerging fields and technologies of these components, and their trends.
