[OpenLayers-Dev] "Grid funkiness"

So, in our previous discussion of the post-tile loading issue, we
decided that it was not a good idea to hide possible bugs by hiding
images outside the grid.

However, it looks like the issue, which I thought was resolved, is
actually not, as tschaub points out in:

http://trac.openlayers.org/ticket/480

This leaves us with two choices, neither of which I like very much.
 * Revert change which turns off checkImgURL. This is the shortest path
to dog food, but it has a problem in that it brings us back to the
   hiding the problem situation.

 * Go through and do an audit to figure out why the heck it's breaking.
This is obviously the better solution long term, but I don't expect
to have any time for OpenLayers for another 4 weeks, and I don't know
if anyone else has the interest in getting this done in a timeframe
that would let us get a 2.3 release out soon.

I have a strong desire to get 2.3 out the door. We've already been
sitting around waiting for release for a month. In that time, we've seen
a lot of improvements, but I still feel like we're lagging. My choice
would be to:

 * Turn back on checkImgURL to get a 2.3 release out
 * Immediately after 2.3, turn it back off, with the intention that
   fixing #480 is a blocker for 2.4

Is anyone else in support of this? Does anyone else have more feedback?

I would love to find out that someone is interested in digging into why
the problem is happening, as well...

Regards,
