Dear OpenLayers developers,
For one of the projects we are currently working on, we need to add
some functionnalities to OpenLayers.
Before we start, I would like to expose to you those different
elements. We think that they could be part of the future of OpenLayers
and integrated as is (or with little rewrite) in a forthcoming
release.
The aim of this mail is to start a discussion on this. We hope that
with such an approach, we'll be able to develop the needed
functionnalities with the agreement of the developpers community.
We want to discuss with you all about use cases, design preferences,
and especially if it is has a chance to be integrated in the trunk or
if it is more like application level elements.
Here are listed the functionnalities, note that they mainly concern
editing tools :
- snapping: the user can draw or modify a vector feature geometry
with snapping enabled.
We first need vertice snapping only, but we can also think about
segment snapping.
Found this definition : http://www.geo.ed.ac.uk/agidexe/term?846
- drag/add/remove vertice
- create island/donut polygons (polygon hole cutter)
If, in your opinion, those functionnalities are to be accepted in the
trunk, I'll give more details on how we imagine to implement them.
Side note : some of the previously listed tools were already added by
Bertil and I in the first vector branch (late 2006).
Tim, you just created a wiki page to list ideas for the future of
OpenLayers. Do the current considerations have to be added there ?
Regards
Pierre
