Thanks for the reply. yes I am aware of the XML format. And thanks for the example also. But what I want is how to make the WMS GetCapabilities request from Java Script using the OL APIs. It will be very helpfult if someone could help me with a few lines of code..

You can use XML Format. Look at the source code of this example :
