 @ rdewit, are you able to extend your patch to incorporate label
 backgrounds as worked on in ticket #2349? I would really like to see both
 label background and halo incorporated in the next release; if not both
 then halo alone would suit my requirements.

 Can we get some more feedback from other users to see if we can move this
 one forward?
