 [attachment:ol-2779.2.patch] changes a few things:

  * the doc strings for {{{maxVertices}}} specify that {{{maxVertices}}}
 don't apply if freehand mode is used
  * we make sure {{{passesTolerance}}} returns true before dealing with
 {{{maxVertices}}}
  * we use {{{finishGeometry}}}, which is the common way for finalizing the
 geometry, this should make the code work with the Polygon handler as well

 I'd like to close #3214, and re-run the tests, before closing this one.
