Looks good to me. Please commit if you can provide an update for the #3224
patch so it still applies (I confirmed that it does not apply after this
one).
One thing that would make the patch even better is to use a buffer for the
viewport extent, to make sure that point features at the viewport edges
with the center outside the viewport but a symbolizer with a larger
dimension are drawn. But this can also be considered a separate issue, and
there may be a ticket for it already.
