 I misunderstood your earlier comment. I have tested your patch and it
 works perfectly. Both my issue and the regression that my patch caused are
 fixed in this patch. Tests also work nicely. Elegantly solved.

 I set the state back to review and hope this can be commited and released
 with 2.12. Thanks!
