Comment:

 What I see is a completely different issue: The
 http://openlayers.org/dev/examples/select-feature-
 multilayer.html?renderer=SVG2 example neither works in Webkit nor Mozilla
 browsers. But this may be a different issue than what you are seeing. Can
 you please provide a minimal example that shows your issue, so we at least
 know if these are two different issues or just one?
