 @ahocevar & @aabt: that's great news! It's a shame it does not seem
 possible to get email copies of github issues and pull requests. That
 makes it harder for me to keep track of things.

 Now, I'll have a look at how easy it is to maintain the current VML
 behaviour for non-halo labels. The VML patch will remain quite big because
 of a major rewrite to get the halo behaviour working.

 Please give me an indication if you want this in 2.12 or not.

 @DonaldKerr: I'll upload one that should work with 2.11. The patch fails
 because of a last minute removal of the NG Renderer before 2.11 got
 released.
