[OpenLayers-Users] GML feature attributes

I'm having trouble accessing the attributes in a GML feature.
My mapserver gml attribute labels like "ms:gid" etc

I'm trying to get at them with:

geometry.parent.feature.attributes.ms:gid

without luck (syntax error?)

I'm using firebug to step through and watch things and I can see that  
the values are there, I just can't reference them in my code.
I guess this is actually a javascript question.
