Non-geographic projections are supported. See
http://trac.openlayers.org/wiki/FrequentlyAskedQuestions#Projections for
documentation, http://openlayers.org/dev/examples/freemap.html for an
example.

Even though they are 'LonLat' objects, they're really XY.
