Currently, OpenLayers trunk only supports point features via WFS.
http://openlayers.org/dev/examples/wfs.html demonstrates this
functionality. 

There is currently development under way in the Vector branch of
OpenLayers for full vector layer support. This branch is not yet in a
stable state, though it is targeted for inclusion in OpenLayers sometime
in the relatively near future.
