This is http://trac.openlayers.org/ticket/658 . This is fixed by the
'slowvector' branch:
http://svn.openlayers.org/sandbox/crschmidt/slowvector/ . I'll update
that branch to trunk before the weekend. A fix of this type will be
included in OpenLayers 2.5.
