Jim,

I strongly suggest that you assess what you will try to be doing with
(I'm guessing pre-ArcGIS Server) ArcIMS and your browser client before
going the WMS Connector route.  WMS Connector has SLD filter
limitations.  Also, unless perhaps you use TileCache Server, there can
be very poor performance.  Just think through this carefully, and do
prototypes, before making any important architecture decisions.

If you have enough time, instead roll your own OpenLayers Layer
javascript class for working directly with ArcIMS.  It will be worth the
extra effort in the long run.

No, but you can install the ArcIMS WMS Connector plugin. Everyone who's
asked has just done that instead of writing the code for an ArcIMS Layer
in OL.
