[OpenLayers-Users] Alternative to defining 'preInsertFeature'

Hello,

where is the default geometry for a point drawn on a WFS or GML layer assigned to the small orange circle? I want to have a different shape instead of this default. I have defined a function for preInsertFeature to replace the geometry but is there a better way to do this?
