[OpenLayers-Users] compressed and/or binary GML to make the client side happy

Hello,

I have a GML file with about 4 000 features. The file is about 3MB.

XML is not the most efficient method to transmit data and, on the client
side, when the application try to open the GML, it slows down heavily the
machine and it takes age to render.

I was thinking to compress or at least put in binary the GML file to be more
efficient.
By googling I found some things about a binary XML format and also a gzip
version of GML produced but something really concrete and final.
Is there something working with OL that I can try?

thanks
